Kidney Transplant
🧬 Kidney Transplant (गुर्दा प्रतिरोपण)
A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure where a healthy kidney from a donor is placed into a person whose kidneys have failed or are not working properly. It is considered the best treatment option for patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) or chronic kidney failure.
⚙️ How is it done?
The new kidney is placed in the lower abdomen.
The old/damaged kidneys are usually not removed, unless necessary.
The new kidney’s blood vessels and ureter are connected to the recipient’s body so it can start functioning.
⏱️ Recovery After Transplant:
Hospital stay: 7–10 days, depending on the patient’s condition.
Lifelong use of immunosuppressive medicines is required to prevent the body from rejecting the new kidney.
Regular follow-ups and lab tests are necessary to monitor kidney function.
